I have been exploring a phenomenon that we often see nowadays
-people trying to manipulate or even erase the past. Both works that I’m submitting are part of a series of 20 prints that comment on current events in my home country Bulgaria. They are depicting a monument (along with many others like it) that is planned to be destroyed as soon as possible by the current government – the monument of the Soviet Army in the capital city. This in my opinion is a brutal attempt at destruction and distortion of past events provoked by the rising wave of fascism, nationalism and populism throughout Europe. The work aim at visualising such events symbolically by using so-called glitched photos of the momument created by manipulation, replacement and erasure of the binary data of the original digital photos.
